OK…16 random facts, habits, or goals:

1. I was born in Ireland, but moved when I was 2 years old.  I never had an accent, but whenever I go back, I pick up an accent.  My man-thing makes fun of me profusely for this and thinks I’m faking it.
2. I’m kind of obsessed with jezebel.com… although I’m trying to wean myself off that site and go to feministing.com to get my feminist fix.
3. My Dad was a writer, my Mom was an artist, and because I wanted to avoid their life of poverty, I plunged headlong into the sciences to try to ensure job security and salary.  Ironically, there isn’t much money to be made in public health (unless you’re an epidemiologist or statistician) without years of experience and/or a medical license.  Curses!  I still love public health.
4. This is the longest period in my life I’ve gone without making a really good friend.  I keep my old ones near and dear to my heart, but it makes living in Maine more challenging than it already is.
5. I’m constantly looking for experiences and ways to “improve” myself, born out of the “great fear of growing complacent or dull” (nice wording, c-quoia).  Then, after a few weeks, I realize I’m fine the way I am, and become the antithesis of self-progress.  All-in-all, I’m pretty damn ambitious, but my ambition is hindered by my love of sleep and leisure.
6. I have a hard time writing concise sentences/thoughts with “small” words.  (<— This has been the most successful attempt yet.)
7. I daydream a lot.  For that matter, I night-dream a lot too.  I’m one of the lucky few that remember having dream, but I only remember them in detail if I write them down.
8. When I write informally, I write as if I were talking.  This means my writing employs many parentheses, dashes, ampersands, elipses, emphatic highlighting, and so on.  I have too many streams of thought clashing into each other to devote them to separate sentences!
9. I am more physically active now in my life than I ever have been.  I plan on continuing this.
10. I want to visit countries where english is not the primary spoken language… OK, New Zealand is still high on my list.
11. For that  matter, I would like to see real mountains.  The Appalachian range, as beautiful as it is, are not real mountains.  Snowboaring on real mountains?  Now THAT would be cool.
12. I see beauty and art all around me, even in conventionally ugly places.  And hope—I see a lot of that.
13. I love cooking, but often when I get home, my energy has been so devoted to other areas that I find it challenging to channel it into preparing a meal.  But when I do?  I will invariably take a picture of my masterpiece.
14. Most of the time, I wake up before my alarm goes off.  I have an intense circadian rhythm that makes me quite the morning person.
15. I used to be in musical theatre when I was a teenager.  I want to get back into it again.
16.  I want to read Ulysses by Bloomday (June 16th).
